# Key concepts

> The building blocks of the product. Each one appears in the portal and in the API with the same name.

| Concept | What it is | Key points |
| - | - | - |
| FX Quotes | A price offer to exchange an amount from USD to BRL. | Not linked to a sender. Fixed USD or fixed BRL. One price for `PREFUNDED` and `CREDIT`. Short validity, used once. `usage = REMITTANCE` (default) for a withdrawal, or `INVENTORY` to create an Inventory Lot. Does not check the sender, reserve limit or contract FX. |
| Withdrawals | The operation that sends money from a sender to a beneficiary in Brazil. | Informs sender, beneficiary, purpose, relationship and funding mode. `PREFUNDED` and `CREDIT` use a quote (`quoteId`). `INVENTORY` uses a lot (`funding.inventoryId`), the BRL amount and `senderQuote`, with no `quoteId`. Creating a withdrawal creates a remittance. |
| Remittances | The full operation that sends money from a sender to a beneficiary. | Created by a withdrawal; type `WITHDRAWAL`. One lifecycle status, plus a sub-status for FX, funding, payout and settlement. |
| Senders | The MSB’s customers in the US who start and pay for remittances. | Individual (18+) or business. Compliance level `LEVEL_0` to `LEVEL_3` defines whether and how much they can send in 24h, 30d and 180d. |
| Beneficiaries | The people or companies in Brazil who receive the BRL. | Registered with address and relationship type. One or more Pix keys, each screened before use. |
| Funding | How a remittance is paid for before the Pix is sent. | `PREFUNDED` uses USD the MSB already holds in the US, paid before the Pix. `CREDIT` advances the BRL through the LB Pay credit line and creates an obligation to repay. `INVENTORY` uses FX volume contracted in advance in an Inventory Lot. |
| Inventory Lots | FX volume contracted in advance by the MSB, with a fixed rate, volume and validity. | Created with `POST /v1/inventories` from an `INVENTORY` quote; each call creates a new, independent lot. Creates a USDC payment promise. Balances total, available, reserved and used, in BRL and USD (`total = available + reserved + used`). Status `ACTIVE`, `DEPLETED`, `EXPIRED`. Used by withdrawals with `funding.mode = INVENTORY`. |
| Wallets | Balances linked to the MSB’s remittances. | USD Wallet is the MSB’s prefunded USD balance in the US. BRL Wallet is real balance in Brazil. Ledger, available, reserved and pending balances. |
| Settlements | Daily batch with what the MSB pays for credit used. | One batch per due date: one amount and one payment per day. Status open, closed, due, overdue, completed. Counterpart is LB Pay. |
| Compliance | Controls applied to senders, beneficiaries and remittances. | Runs automatically: KYC levels, beneficiary approval, sanctions and AML screening. Can place a remittance `ON_HOLD`. There is no compliance API: the MSB sees the result in the status of the sender, beneficiary and remittance. |
